There has been a renewed focus on one of the most infamous human rights atrocities committed under the military dictatorship led by General Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990) – the so-called Caso Quemados (‘The case of the burned’). In late July a judge issued arrest warrants for a string of former military officials after two former military conscripts broke a 30-year long pact of silence and changed their testimony.
