POLITICS: New electoral court

With referenda due in September to ratify autonomy statutes in five of Bolivia’s nine departments (La Paz, Cochabamba, Oruro, Chuquisaca and Potosí), the need to address a crisis in the supreme electoral court (TSE) is a priority for the government led by President Evo Morales. In July, the 166-member plurinational bicameral legislature selected six of seven new magistrates for the TSE, with the other selected by President Morales, as per a 2010 law.
