BRAZIL | First approval of antiterrorism law. On 13 August the chamber of deputies approved a much-debated antiterrorism law, after explicitly excluding from its scope protest actions by social groups aimed at defending constitutional rights, guarantees and freedoms ― framed so as to make this applicable to the periodical actions by the movement of landless peasants (MST) and the wave of protest demonstrations on June 2013 (though violence in these protest actions remains punishable under the penal code).
