POLITICS: PNP corruption allegations prompt public response from Humala

“I categorically reject it”, President Ollanta Humala stated in response to the latest corruption accusations levelled against his political outfit, Partido Nacionalista Peruano (PNP), and his wife and First Lady, Nadine Heredia. Humala was speaking during a lengthy interview on 20 September with the state-owned TV Perú. Allegations of corruption, including money laundering and financial misconduct, have constantly shadowed the PNP, Heredia - the party president - and Humala, plunging the government’s popularity to a new nadir as it slopes into its final year. Humala’s decision to publicly address the corruption allegations comes as the PNP prepares for the worst in the April 2016 general election.
