Protesters up the ante ahead of re-election debate

Ecuador’s opposition took to the streets on 11 November in renewed protests against the government led by President Rafael Correa. It is the sixth time this year that protesters, comprising mainly trade unions, indigenous organisations, and students have staged demonstrations against the Correa administration – and there is more to come. Protest organisers are planning another march on 26 November and a national strike to coincide with the national assembly’s debate of 15 constitutional reforms, including indefinite re-election, in early December.
