Uruguay was the first port of call for Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri since coming to power on 11 December last year. Macri’s visit was much more than a symbolic gesture though. Macri joined his host President Tabaré Vázquez in heralding a re-launch of diplomatic relations that were strained throughout over a decade of Kirchnerista governments despite ideological affinities. The two signed concrete agreements on port policy, the environment, and gas, complemented by a shared vision on boosting foreign trade.
