Marijuana debate gets underway

Marijuana has made it to Mexico’s federal congress. Not in its hard substance but in the form of a public debate over the pros and cons of its eventual legalisation. The debate follows a landmark ruling by Mexico’s supreme court (SCJN) last November in favour of four plaintiffs who had taken legal action on the grounds that their constitutional rights had been violated by a law prohibiting the cultivation and personal use of marijuana.
