Julio Guzmán should be able to run in the presidential elections on 10 April. The candidacy of Guzmán, who has surged up the polls to cement second place, was given the go-ahead by the Jurado Electoral Especial de Lima (JEE) on 24 February after more than a week of uncertainty. Guzmán is the only candidate in the top five with the priceless commodity of momentum. He might not overhaul the long-time frontrunner, Keiko Fujimori, before the elections, but now that he has distanced himself from the pack he will pick up more and more of the anti-Fujimori vote, propelling him into a run-off on 5 June.
