ECUADOR POLITICS & DIPLOMACY: Correa shakes up cabinet as military dispute claims scalp

President Rafael Correa announced a high-level cabinet reshuffle on 3 March, following the resignation of Fernando Cordero as defence minister amid a row between the government and the armed forces over military pensions. Correa appointed his chief lieutenant, Ricardo Patiño, to take over from Cordero. This was no real surprise as Correa wants a close confidant to resolve the differences with the military.
