PARAGUAY: Arms trafficking operations exposed

Paraguayan authorities have discovered what appears to be a major arms trafficking ring dedicated to smuggling military-grade weaponry to neighbouring Brazil and possibly other countries. The involvement of an approved provider to the Paraguayan military suggests the potential implication of corrupt government officials. The emerging case once again highlights the weaknesses of Paraguay’s institutions and the security threat that this represents to its neighbours.
