VENEZUELA: Rival explanations for mining massacre

In mid-March Venezuelan police said they had recovered the bodies of 17 miners in a mass grave in the south-eastern state of Bolívar, following reports of a massacre there on 4 March and claims that up to 27 people were missing. The case has become rapidly politicised with both the government and the opposition trading accusations over it. Establishing what actually happened is looking difficult.
