A scramble for anti-corruption legislation

Emilio Gamboa, the coordinator of Mexico’s governing Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) in the federal senate, has committed to redoubling efforts to bring about transparency and anti-corruption reforms before the end of the ordinary legislative calendar on 30 April. President Enrique Peña Nieto’s party has come under increasing attack from both opposition legislators and civil society groups for its record on fighting corruption, with opponents suggesting the “decaffeination” of anti-corruption reforms.
