Legalisation of marijuana advances on two fronts
Under pressure to come up with a new national policy regulating the use of marijuana following last year’s landmark ruling by the supreme court (SCJN) giving a group of pro-marijuana legalisation campaigners special dispensation to produce and consume marijuana for personal recreational use on constitutional grounds despite the fact that marijuana use remains completely outlawed by the country’s federal general health law, Mexico’s authorities are now scrambling to come up with a new set of approved regulations that can be implemented by the government. This as a number of competing marijuana legalisation bills have been submitted to congress, with new requests seeking to expedite the legalisation of the narcotic, for medicinal purposes in particular, being submitted to SCJN.
