ARGENTINA POLITICS: A problem shared is a problem halved

Argentina’s Mauricio Macri was the only Latin American president to appear in the ‘Panama Papers’, when the first explosive revelations of the information leak were published in early April. Though the initial coverage appeared unfavourable to the president, and certainly drew attention to his wealthy family, on closer inspection the revelations did not appear too damaging. Meanwhile the political opposition has also been hamstrung by the naming of Kirchner-era officials and by the fact that former president, Cristina Fernández (2007-2015), is currently battling her own corruption allegations.
