Five people died during an electronic music festival in Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, after they apparently overdosed on para-Methoxy-N-methylamphetamine (PMMA), a powerful methamphetamine believed to be highly harmful to humans in large doses. The fact that reportedly large quantities of the drug were openly sold during the event approved by the Buenos Aires City government has sparked serious questions about the spread of use of this and other so-called ‘designer’ synthetic drugs among young people in Argentina.
