HAITI: New police chief takes over as security concerns rise

This month Michel-Ange Gédéon was installed as the new head of Haiti’s police (PNd’H), replacing Godson Orélus who had been in the post since August 2012. Gédéon takes over at time of increased insecurity concerns related to the current electoral crisis stemming from the cancellation of the 24 January presidential and partial legislative run-offs. This resulted in Jocelerme Privert taking over as interim president on 14 February with a 120-day mandate – his chief task to hold the delayed elections.
