Development: On 24 May Manuel Manrique, the president of Spanish construction firm Sacyr Vallehermoso, which is part of the Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC) multinational consortium in charge of delivering the Panama Canal expansion project, announced that work on the canal’s new third set of locks – the biggest task in US$5.3bn expansion project – was complete.
