IAPA condemns precarious press freedom in the Andean

Last month the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) held its midyear meeting in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, which concluded that threats and killings against journalists, government pressure and restrictions on media outlets, control of social media, and limits on access to public information remain commonplace across the region. Citing the commitments of the 1994 Organization of American States Chapultepec Declaration on free speech, the IAPA released a set of country reports and resolutions that signal concern regarding the state of press freedom, including in the Andean region.
