COLOMBIA: Santos prepares for final push for peace with a new cabinet

Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos senses that a peace deal with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc), the country’s largest guerrilla group, is now well within reach. In a bid to ensure that his government is prepared to make the final push to secure an eventual deal, President Santos has conducted yet another major cabinet reshuffle. While more diverse and politically inclusive, there is no guarantee that this new cabinet “for peace” will succeed in achieving all of its objectives – not least politically and legally underpinning a finalised peace deal.
