JAMAICA: No sign of the growth required to fulfil jobs promises

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) government led by Prime Minister Andrew Holness won the February general election on the back of promises to create some 200,000 new jobs over five to seven years, but it gave little indication as to how it might accelerate growth to the level required to fulfil this ambition. The latest anaemic growth projections add to the feeling that the government has raised expectations that will be very hard to meet.
