DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Opposition unites to challenge electoral results

Encouraged by its better-than-expected performance in last month’s general elections, the political opposition in the Dominican Republic (DR) has barely waited for the dust to settle before subjecting the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) government led by re-elected President Danilo Medina [RC-16-05] to fresh political pressure. No fewer than six opposition presidential candidates have rejected the final electoral results released by the national electoral authority (JCE), complaining about various alleged irregularities.
