At least eight people were killed on 19 June after violent clashes between militant teachers and police officers in the south-eastern state of Oaxaca. The violence broke out after some 800 federal police (PF) and state police officers sought to dismantle roadblocks erected by protesters from Mexico’s second largest teachers’ union Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE).
