ECUADOR: Trying to overcome Assange impasse
Foreign Minister Guillaume Long met the British minister for the Americas, Hugo Swire, in London on 20 June. The agenda addressed a variety of topics including the recent earthquake that devastated Ecuador’s northern coastal provinces on 16 April; bilateral trade issues; and possible new alliances to develop security cooperation and education. But overshadowing all of the discussions was the situation of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks who has been holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London for just over four years.
