PERU: Petroperú could face reform after fresh spill

President-elect Pedro Pablo Kuczynski could come under early pressure to undertake some sweeping reforms at Petroperú after yet another serious oil spill in the Amazon forced the resignation of Germán Velásquez, the president of the state oil company. The energy and mines minister, Rosa María Ortíz, accused Petroperú of committing a “serious offence” for pumping crude through the Norperuano pipeline in the northernmost Amazon region of Loreto despite operations being suspended on 16 February by the regulating body Osinergmin after two spills at the start of the year.
