ARGENTINA: Trouble with the gas

President Mauricio Macri’s attempt to reduce heavy energy subsidies by raising gas prices has run into more legal trouble. After years of fixed nominal gas utility rates, which fell sharply in real terms from year-to-year because of inflation, earlier this year the new government introduced big increases, with some tariffs going up by over 1,000%, a move which unleashed strong political opposition and legal challenges.
