MEXICO: What happened at Nochixtlán?

On 19 June there was a series of running battles between federal and state police on the one hand, and members of CNTE, the militant teachers’ trade union, and local residents on the other, in and around the highway running through the town of Nochixtlán in the state of Oaxaca. At the end of the day according to official accounts, eight people had been killed, six had “disappeared”, over 100 had been seriously injured, and 27 had been arrested. Amid a range of conflicting claims it is still not clear what actually happened.
