ARGENTINA-PARAGUAY: Argentina’s ‘most wanted man’ implicates former officials

Following his arrest 19 June arrest in the city the Brazilian border city of Foz do Iguaçu, during a joint operation between the local and Paraguayan police, Argentine fugitive Ibar Esteban Pérez Corradi, was quickly extradited back to his home country. Pérez Corradi, who was convicted for drug trafficking and who faced money laundering and murder charges in Argentina, was considered that country’s most wanted man since he fled Argentina in 2012 and manged to evade capture by hiding in Paraguay under a fake identity. His case is causing concern both in Paraguay, where investigations have been launched into how Pérez Corradi managed to obtain a new Paraguayan identity, and even more in Argentina after he implicated former top Argentine government officials in major drug trafficking and money laundering rings.
