Uruguay’s Vázquez refuses to meet with Pit-Cnt as gov’t-union tensions rise

Development: On 26 July a letter by Uruguay’s President Tabaré Vázquez was released in which he rejects an invitation to hold a meeting with representatives of the country’s main umbrella union, Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores-Convención Nacional de Trabajadores (Pit-Cnt), to discuss the union’s demands for a salary increase and increased social spending.
