COLOMBIA: Truckers strike defused, for now

After more than a month of very damaging and often violent national strike action staged by Colombian trucker associations, the government led by President Juan Manuel Santos struck a partial deal with protesters that has put an end to the unrest. As has been the case in recent years, however, when similar protests emerged, the Santos government is now under pressure to fulfil all the pledges that it has made to the transport sector.
