VENEZUELA: Who’s in charge?

The secretary general of the main hemispheric Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, has added his voice to those expressing concern at the unprecedented new powers given to the head of the armed forces, suggesting that President Nicolás Maduro may have “taken resignation” of his role. Some critics have decried a de facto coup by the military leadership.
