US President Barack Obama received his Mexican peer Enrique Peña Nieto in the White House on 22 July to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties at a time when there is grave uncertainty about their future course given the confirmation of Donald Trump as the presidential candidate for the Republican party. Obama sought to reassure Peña Nieto about the “enduring partnership” which the US enjoys with Mexico.
