PERU: Investigation launched into alleged PNP death squad

One of the first acts by Peru’s new interior minister, Carlos Basombrío, after he was sworn-in on 28 July was to order an investigation into the allegations of the existence of a death squad in Peru’s national police (PNP). Although combating criminality and improving public security is one of the main challenges facing the new government led by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, the serious concerns that these allegations have caused appear to have turn this into a top priority issue for new administration.
