Kia implicated in major corruption investigation in Nuevo León

The supreme court of Mexico’s Nuevo Leon state will decide whether to uphold the embezzlement and fraud charges made against the former governor, Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz (2009-2015). Nuevo León public prosecutors presented the charges against Medina based on investigations into irregularities in the granting of a tax incentive package benefiting South Korean car manufacturer, Kia Motors, for the construction of a new assembly plant in the state. The case is symptomatic of the widespread corruption concerns that continue to affect Mexico’s state governments.
