Optimism rises for 2017

Brazil will post real annual GDP growth of 1.36% in 2017, according to the latest weekly consensus forecast of local economists compiled by the central bank (BCB). This is the most optimistic outlook in a year, and signals reviving confidence in Brazil’s economy under the new government led by President Michel Temer. In the meantime, economists have more or less written off this year, with an expected contraction of about 3%.
