Mexico City pushes ahead with political reform

Following the approval of the constitutional reform pushed by the government led by President Enrique Peña Nieto giving Mexico City state status, this process has now come into full swing with the convening of a constituent legislative assembly that will draft a constitution for Mexico City. While supporters of the change in status say it will give Mexico City’s government more legislative powers and grant the capital greater political autonomy, others question to what extent the federal government should cede control over the capital.
