On 29 September US Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew visited Mexico and met the newly-appointed finance minister, José Antonio Meade Kuribreña. The two men discussed issues such as bilateral economic integration and cooperation between the two countries, as well as the fight against illicit economic activities. During the visit, Secretary Lew also participated in a forum about the economic relationship between Mexico and the US with students of the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (Itam), in which he argued that this relationship should endure independently of any changes of government either side of the border.
