Argentina: Buenos Aires to get new municipal police force

After years of disputes between Argentina’s federal government and the government of the City of Buenos Aires over who should be in charge of policing the national capital, the authorities have finally reached a new understanding. In mid-October the municipal government announced plans backed by the national government for the creation of a new police force for the City of Buenos Aires which will be in charge of providing public security and enforcing the rule of law in the capital city. The changes are intended to improve public security not just in the City of Buenos Aires but in the surrounding metropolitan area, the wider province of Buenos Aires and indeed across the country.
