BOLIVIA: Morales on the defensive over corruption

The Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) government led by President Evo Morales continues to face accusations from various sectors that it has failed to address public corruption. The issue was widely considered a key factor in President Morales’ unprecedented electoral defeat in the 21 February 2016 referendum [RA-16-02] on whether to reform the 2009 constitution to allow him to run for a third consecutive presidential term (under the current constitution) in 2019.
