EL SALVADOR: No deal on fiscal pact

More than one month on from launching crisis talks with representatives of all of El Salvador’s political parties on 4 October, the government led by President Salvador Sánchez Cerén has still not managed to secure a fiscal pact to ward off the threat of default. Both the ruling left-wing Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) and the main opposition party, the right-wing Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena), are engaged in acrimonious mutual finger pointing.
