Uruguay: Bonomi survives senate roasting

Uruguay’s ruling Frente Amplio (FA) coalition used its senate majority to save the interior minister, Eduardo Bonomi, once again on 31 October. Bonomi was hauled before the senate four days earlier by the political opposition to respond to some fierce questioning in relation to the public security situation in the country. Bonomi stood his ground during the interrogation but the opposition was unconvinced by his responses and Senator Jorge Larrañaga, of the centre-right opposition Partido Nacional (PN, Blancos), presented a motion of censure.
