Caribbean: Increased US deportations would adversely affect Caribbean security

US President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to deport 2m-3m illegal immigrants with criminal records. On 13 November, the president-elect told CBS’s 60 Minutes programme: “What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably 2 million, it could be even 3 million, we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate [them].” The English-speaking Caribbean is trying to work out what this will mean for a region that has already been struggling with the issue of returning criminals.
