Presidential runners and riders confirmed
Eight candidates met the deadline of 18 November to register to compete in the presidential elections in February 2017. With President Rafael Correa stepping aside after 10 years in power, there is renewed optimism among the opposition that it can turn the tables on his Alianza País (AP), although the latest opinion polls suggest that the ruling party’s candidate, former vice-president Lenín Moreno, is the early frontrunner.
