New trinational force’s challenge – keeping homicides down

The number of homicides registered in Central America’s so-called ‘Northern Triangle’ area (El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala) fell in 2016 compared to 2015. Maintaining this positive downward trend will serve as a challenge for the new trinational task force recently launched by the governments of the three Northern Triangle countries to combat local street gangs (maras) and shore up public security.
