Ancap reform quietly pushed through

Uruguay’s state-owned energy company, Administración Nacional de Combustibles, Alcoholes y Portland (Ancap), shed two of its subsidiaries just before Christmas. President Tabaré Vázquez had reported in September 2016 that the government was considering reducing the number of subsidiary companies run by Ancap because they had failed to produce “positive results”, and this will now become a reality.
