Education reform: one step forward, two steps back?

Building on his newfound strong support base in both houses of Brazil’s congress, President Michel Temer is forging ahead with his unpopular reform agenda. While all eyes were turned towards a pension reform bill that aims to increase the age of retirement, which sparked protests in 15 different states, on 8 February the federal senate gave final approval a controversial government education reform package.
