The sub-regional think tank Instituto Centroamericano de Estudios Fiscales (Icefi) has published a new report analysing the potential impact that the more radical policy measures on migration and trade mooted by US President Donald Trump could have on Central American economies and their public finances. Identifying Central America’s so-called ‘Northern Triangle’ countries (El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala) as being the most economically dependent on the US and likely to be affected by changes in US policy, the report, published on 9 February, warns about how these countries could be negatively impacted by the mooted changes.
