OUR PEOPLE

Management

JKC de Courcy, a geopolitical expert with over 25 years’ experience of assessing economic, political and strategic risk issues, is Chief Executive of Intelligence Research Ltd, publishers of the Latinnews service. He is also chief executive of the not-for-profit Emerging Health Threats Forum, a resource for scientists and global public-health officials on all sources of emerging health threats.

Non-Executive directors include Philip Oppenheim, founder of What to Buy for Business PLC and a former Conservative MP and Treasury minister in the John Major government, Rupert Lowe, chairman of WH Ireland PLC, and Peter Ramsden , formerly a BBC producer and founding shareholder and main-board director of the Psion electronics group.

Editorial team

Eduardo Crawley has written a number of definitive books on Latin American politics. For 20 years he edited Latinnews' flagship publication, Latin American Weekly Report. His experience and knowledge of Latin American politics - including the personalities involved - is unrivalled. He is the editor of the influential bi monthly series of Latin American Special Reports and of the authoritative monthly Latin American Security and Strategic Review .

Will Ollard is head of economics for Latinnews and editor of our leading monthly publication Latin American Economy and Business. He also edits Mexico Regional Report . Before joining Latinnews, Will spent six years (1981-87) with Euromoney, where he became US editor, and then took up the role of banking correspondent for The Economist until 1990.

Jon Farmer is editor of our flagship Latin American Weekly Report . Jon has travelled widely in Latin America and has an extensive network of contacts. He was previously editor of several of our monthly Regional Reports. Before joining Latinnews in 2001, he wrote for the New Statesman.

Eileen Gavin is editor of the Latinnews Daily service. Eileen began her career in the late 1990s at the Institute for European-Latin American Relations (IRELA) in Madrid, Spain, before returning to London in 2001. She has worked on Latin American & Caribbean political, economic and security affairs at leading UK research and advisory firms including The Economist Intelligence Unit and Euromonitor International. Eileen's main interests include Latin American economic policy and international political economy. She is currently focused on Brazil, Venezuela, and Cuba. Eileen joined LatinNews in mid 2008. She is Managing Editor, Editor of the Brazil & Southern Cone Report and Editor of the Daily News Service.

Sarah Sheldon is editor of the Caribbean & Central America Report. Sarah Sheldon is a literature graduate from Leeds University and University College London, who spent two and a half years working in Guatemala for the weekly regional analysis publication, Inforpress Centroamericana. She also undertook investigations and compiled the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) country commercial report for Nicaragua and has travelled widely in the region. Sarah joined the Latinnews team in July 2007.

Our Regional Reports editorial team covering Central America, the Andean Group, Mexico & Nafta and Brazil and the Southern Cone is made up of Eileen Gavin, Will Ollard, Sarah Sheldon, Jimena Blanco-Chavez, and Isabel Crabtree-Condor, all of whom are also key members of the Daily Briefing team.

We are a close-knit, friendly team, offering a unique opportunity to gain experience of journalism and work on the current political, economic, security and social issues affecting Latin America and the Caribbean.

Previous staff members have gone on to the BBC, the FT, the Guardian, Bloomberg, Dow Jones, the Inter American Development Bank, the World Bank and other leading agencies on Latin America. Others are well known journalists, authors and academics.

Internships

We offer periodic work experience to students of Latin America and the Caribbean. The positions are unpaid, but offer the opportunity to get a direct feel for a career as a regional analyst, as well as a valuable insight into the world of journalism/publishing. We are happy to arrange flexible hours with suitable candidates.

As an intern at Latin American Newsletters, you may be expected to contribute directly to our publications, as well as helping out with daily production tasks, updating our website/databases/research library and providing other useful support to our small editorial team.
