In brief: Mexico’s Sheinbaum renews anti-inflation plan

*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that her government has signed a renewal of the package against inflation and high prices (Pacic) with convenience stores and agricultural producers. Sheinbaum stated that this agreement meant that the price of the 24 products in the basic food basket would not increase. First implemented by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) in May 2022, the Pacic has been renewed under Sheinbaum once before, in November 2024, when she signed an agreement with representatives from 19 food producing companies and 11 retailers, who agreed to maintain the price of items in the basic basket for six months. Mexico’s annual inflation rate reached 3.93% in April 2025 – slightly up from 3.80% in March, but below the 4.55% recorded in November 2024, when the previous Pacic renewal was announced.
