Decline in violent deaths and robberies

The annual crime report by Brazilian think tank Fórum Brasileiro de Segurança Pública (FBSP) published on 24 July showed that the downward trend in recent years in crime categories such as violent killings and robberies and thefts continued in 2024. The potential causes of Brazil’s falling rates of killings and robberies are a complex mix of factors that experts continue to debate, and the drop in these crimes could be tied to the growing influence of criminal gangs and new forms of crimes in the online sphere.
