MEXICO: Triumphant PRI may help López Obrador survive

The meeting between President Vicente Fox and Mexico City mayor Andrés Manuel López Obrador was perfunctory and failed to clear the air. However, from elsewhere came what appeared to be a message that the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) would not support the lifting of López Obrador's immunity from prosecution. Basking in his party's electoral victories, PRI leader Roberto Madrazo said he had no need to remove López Obrador from the presidential race.
